Christmas Dinner

Christmas dinner… it’s something many of us look forward to all year long. We wait all year to savor some of our holiday favorites such as mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, stuffing, turkey, ham and many other goodies (including PIE)! The food is great, but it doesn’t always leave you feeling great afterwards. You might have a stomach ache or feel tired to the point that you just need a good ol’ nap. With Christmas just hours away, we’re taking a look at some reasons why your Christmas dinner is leaving you feeling less than jolly!

According to The Independent and the American Chemical Society, “when you swallow food, you also swallow air. That fills up your stomach and intestines with gas as well as actual food – especially if you’re drinking carbonated beverages, which release lots of gas inside you.” So, that uncomfortable feeling you get when you’re stuffed from your heavy holiday meal is your body’s way of slowing you down. Some signs you may have eaten too much include a stomach ache, heartburn and tiredness.

You can have your cake (and eat it too), but first you might consider limiting your intake at dinner. We love all the holiday fixins as much as the next person so we’ll never tell you to give up your favorites, but reducing your side dishes to just one or two will ensure you have plenty of room for pumpkin pie! If you’re reading this a little too late and are already overstuffed with carbs galore, our Yogabed is the perfect place for your holiday nap. So, climb in bed and give your tummy a rest before indulging in your favorite sweet treats and you’ll be feeling merry in no time!
